Your First Chiropractic Visit in Lethbridge | What to Expect

It’s completely normal to feel a little uncertain before your first chiropractic appointment — especially if you’ve never seen a chiropractor before. What will they do? Will it hurt? How long will it take? We get these questions all the time at our Lethbridge clinic, and we think the best antidote to uncertainty is information.

Here’s an honest, step-by-step look at what your first visit will involve.

Step 1: Health History and Intake

We start by getting to know you. You’ll fill out a brief health history form covering your current concern, past injuries, medical history, and lifestyle factors. This information helps your chiropractor understand not just your symptoms, but the context of your health — your job, your activity level, your sleep patterns, all of it.

Step 2: Consultation

Your chiropractor will sit down with you to talk through your health concern in detail. They’ll ask questions about when your pain started, what makes it better or worse, and what you’ve already tried. This is your opportunity to share everything — there’s no detail too small.

Step 3: Physical Examination

The examination assesses your posture, range of motion, and the specific area of concern. Your chiropractor will feel along the spine for areas of tension, restriction, or misalignment (called subluxations). Orthopedic and neurological tests may be used to assess nerve function. In some cases, digital X-rays may be taken at the clinic if clinically indicated.

Step 4: Diagnosis and Care Plan

Based on the consultation and examination, your chiropractor will explain what they found and outline a treatment plan tailored to your goals. They’ll tell you how many visits they recommend, what the treatment will involve, and what outcomes you can realistically expect.

What Should You Bring?

  • Your Alberta Health card and extended benefits card
  • Any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRI results) if you have them
  • A list of current medications if applicable
  • Comfortable clothing you can move in
